Ghana
The Ghana Police Service on Monday evening issued a news release cautioning citizens against circulating a video recording of what it says “appears to be a gang rape involving a young lady and at least five men.”
The police said given the severity of the offence, it had composed a special investigations team at the Criminal Investigations Department to “analyse the video with the aim of identifying those involved and to get them arrested” for the law to take its course.
The video which has been circulating on social media platform whatsapp is said to have been recorded in the Ashanti region of the country. It is believed that the boys recorded the act but not known as yet who started sharing it over social media.
“The Police CID is therefore appealing to all media houses and those in possession of the video to stop circulating it since it is an offence to circulate such obscene material,” the statement issued by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Olivia Turkson, read.
The police have also entreated the public to volunteer any information they have on the incident. Meanwhile, local media reports that three of the culprits have so far been arrested.
